hardtack

“Hardtack (or hard tack) is a simple type of cracker or biscuit, made from flour, water, and sometimes salt. Inexpensive and long-lasting, it was and is used for sustenance in the absence of perishable foods, commonly during long sea voyages and military campaigns.[1] The name derives from the British sailor slang for food, “tack”. It is known by other names such as pilot bread (as rations for ship’s pilots[2]), ship’s biscuit, shipbiscuit, sea biscuit, sea bread (as rations for sailors) or pejoratively “dog biscuits”, “tooth dullers”, “sheet iron”, “worm castles” or “molar breakers”.[3] Australian military personnel know them as ANZAC wafers.” — From Wikipedia.org

The Hardtack Brigade is a group of life long friends who have had a lifelong interest with survival and making/acquiring what can’t be found on the shelf.  All of us have various degrees of military experience.  Each of us has developed their own interests and specialties.

The contributors of this site possess nearly 100 years of combined personal knowledge on these topics and want to share with others.  We don’t have any dreams of wealth and you won’t see 400 water purifier/buy gold ads on the side of our site EVER.

NONE, of us have been irrational doomsday types.  We scoffed at Y2k, and laugh when some wild eyed preacher picks a date.  In our middle ages we recently ALL  have come to the conclusion that NOW is the time to share with others.  The financial crisis IS REAL.  Weather it’s the Illuminati, greed, or typical government incompetent behavior.

When empire’s fall it is serious to the little people, but it doesn’t mean it is the end.   Matthew 24:35  “But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.”

The focus here is on the practical, affordable, and what really will save your life in what is beginning to be a very scary time.  We don’t claim to have all the answers and fully acknowledge that we may be sometimes wrong.   The idea here is that contributors and readers alike will share and hopefully never have to use this knowledge to save the lives  of our families and ourselves.

Welcome aboard share your Recipe … with us!
